This snuck up on me! I'm not sure I'm ready but here goes with the first topic:
Colour Lovers
Colour is one of our greatest expressions of ourselves when we choose to
knit or crochet, so how do you choose what colours you buy and crochet
or knit with. Have a look through your stash and see if there is a
predominance of one colour. Do the same with your finished projects - do
they match? Do you love a rainbow of bright hues, or more subdued
tones. How much attention do you pay to the original colour that a
garment is knit in when you see a pattern? Tell readers about your love
or confusion over colour.
When I knit for myself I choose mostly bright, clear colors. When I knit for others I feel more free with a wider range of color. Sometimes I choose just the right colors and other times the colors match how I feel about the person and not necessarily what colors they love. I think I'm getting better. It takes paying attention and I'm still learning what to pay attention to.
My recent projects tend toward purple but that's mainly because the recipients like purple. When I look over 3 years of projects I see a wide range of color. I think I'm getting pretty good about choosing colors for patterns. I really don't pay attention to the color a garment is knit in when I'm choosing a pattern. I do pay attention when a pattern designer mentions that a garment looks good with long color runs or a variegated yarn but I feel free to choose colors that please me rather than match what someone else has done.
There's been a lot of paying attention in the first two paragraphs! I think that's the best function of color. It can draw attention to a garment and to the person wearing the garment.
